Carbon Fiber Reinforced PLA is a wonderful material, strong, lightweight, excellent layer adhesion and low warpage. It has excellent layer adhesion and low warpage. Carbon Fiber PLA strength is high compare to other 3d printing materials.  This filament isn’t ‘stronger’ likewise other 3D materials, rather, it is more rigid. Increased rigidity from the carbon fiber means increased structural support but decreased overall flexibility. It is slightly more brittle then regular PLA. When printed, this material is a dark glossy black that glitters slightly in direct light.

  1. Moderate strain at break (8-10%), so no extreme brittle filament, but toughness
  2. Very high melt strength & viscosity
  3. Good dimensional accuracy and stability
  4. Easy processing on many platforms
  5. High attractive matt black surface
  6. Great impact resistance & light-weight

Carbon Fiber PLA Specification

  1. Melting Temperature: 200°C – 230°C
  2. Tensile Strength: 45.5MPa
  3. Elongation at Break :(73°F) 320%
  4. Standard Tolerance :± 0.05mm
  5. Shore Hardness :45D
  6. Density: 1.3 g/cm3 (1300 kg/m3)
  7. Heat Deflection: 21% to 85°C
  8. Shrinkage: Very Low, When Cooling to Elevated Ambient Temperature

Applications Of Carbon Fiber PLA Material

This is an ideal material for frames, supports, shells, propellers, tools, instruments… really anything not expected (or desired) to bend. It is particularly loved by drone builders and RC hobbyists. It’s perfect for applications requiring the greatest possible stiffness and strength

Over the years 3D printing has evolved excellently and this technique plays a major role in different industries such as manufacturing, medicine, art, design etc., 3D printing filaments are thermoplastic raw materials used for filament freeform fabrication. The kind of filament used impacts the process of 3D printing. A good filament is the one which has a higher consistency of diameter and which is evenly wound on the spool with an accurate tension without getting tangled when unwound.

The Gold carbon fiber is a carbon fiber filament which is tough and have an excellent matte finishing. They are fun and exciting to work with as they are perfect for making parts for prototypes and other applications.

In 3D printing the material occupying the largest market share are photopolymers as compared to composite materials such as carbon fiber filaments. These materials have the capacity to fight with the existing conventional processes just to ace up the productivity and surplus rise, hence. The prints are kept light weight by reinforcing the carbon fiber into the base materials and likewise strength and dimensional ability is observed. This is also considered as a cost-effective substitute for very expensive titanium. This is one of the best carbon fibers used in automotive and aerospace applications.

The print settings of the extrusion rates, bed adhesion, speed, and printing temperature for this material are similar to the base material’s normal settings. This material may at times clog your intruder while in use. Carbon 3D printers can be very abrasive. In most cases fibers are harder compared to the nozzles of the 3D printers where the material is brass and in long run the printer may break down. So, to overcome this, steel is being used instead of brass. The advantage of a hardened steel nozzle is that it can endure the wear on carbon fibers but a major disadvantage is that it is less conductive thermally compared to brass nozzles.

In order to obtain even stronger part a technique called continuous carbon fiber reinforcement. The continuous carbon fiber 3D printing is strong enough to replace aluminium at half weight. Therefore, by placing the carbon fiber it is possible to increase the strength to a part whilst reducing the material use.
